Project Justice
I’ve always been an avid consumer of true crime. From novels to documentaries and podcasts, it’s my main form of “entertainment”. But I’ve always had an issue with calling it that — how could the worst possible thing to happen to a human being be entertainment to someone else? That’s when I decided to take my true crime obsession and use it for good.
I started an Instagram account where I could memorialize these victims of violent crime. I included details about the nature of the crime, the injustices surrounding it, and a bit about who the victims were in life, both to humanize them but also to shift focus away from the perpetrator. I then linked the account to a website where I’ve compiled multiple resources for how the viewer can take action.
My hope for the future of this project is to help gain awareness and support for victims belonging to underrepresented groups that mainstream media typically overlooks.
